After recovering from the shock of the gruesome execution of a JKS ally, Elgon inspects the wreckage of Erodus' corpse. He searches his long memory for any information that could help their current situation. He recalls the Githyanki have dedicated themselves to hunting the Mind Flayers, and it is clear why. Perhaps finding the group they encountered not long ago could be connected, and maybe even fruitful in the pursuit of a solution. Despite the small bit of conversation the ranger’s suggestion prompts, JKS cannot summon the energy for anything productive. The party carries Erodus' body back inside Squadquarters, and turn in for a long rest

In the gateroom, Arden finds a nervous Lief pacing, explaining that he overheard the Death Knights saying they were moving out. Turning his attention towards the Ahtos guards, Arden approaches the Captain and confirms they received new orders and will be moving out within the half hour. Losing no time, Arden hastens back to rejoin the group and fills in his friends. They decided to consult Becky, who still is in recovery in the infirmary.

Becky reacts poorly to yet another blow to her suddenly struggling guild. Without their regular income and the gratis protection from Normaad, their home would be extremely vulnerable should anyone move on them in their weakened state. Brainstorming about any plans for their defense, repairs, and expenses, the group walks back toward their damaged perimeter only to find the Death Knights already gone. JKS prepares to head for The Embrace. The journey will leave a vulnerable SquadQuarters without any senior enforcers. Arden calls the Jr enforces to their duty, and Tingle smoothes over any nerves with an inspiring speech. Hoping it’s enough, they set out north.

On the journey towards The Embrace, Elgon and Kal pick up on a reverberating sound from a distance in another direction, sounding like a distant crowd or mob. Arden stops a pedestrian to ask what's up, and he says it's the protesters by The Pits. “amassing in record numbers another straight day”.

Upon arrival at the embrace, the group finds a moderate sized crowd gathered outside, a line of Death Knights between them and the closed club. After only a moment, the group determines the crowd sounds directly opposed to Ahtos and Normaad, calling them murderers and devil worshippers. A man in the crowd recognizes Tingle and starts calling attention. Before his attempt garners any traction, Tingle makes a threatening show of a firebolt and the man quickly decides to mind his own business. A few more minutes of reading the situation and rejected attempts at entry, lead to the enforcers deciding to move on to the market.

Walking near the street exit of the market, Tingle’s mind is directly contacted by Sindri from the Tin Gemeni. He indicates the shop is ready to run their planar-scan experiment and to head to his shop when possible. However, meaning to speak to him about contacted repairs with the Grehl, the gang heads for Boundfur's office in NorthWest Section 6. Already in the vicinity of Grehl territory, the group winds down the older, narrow streets and see the perimeter facilities of the great workman guild. The soft glow of yellow caution-lights pierce the steamy air, and the Grehl’s massive headquarter facility’s perimeter activity seems to be a bit more active than usual. Not long after, guards stop the group at the gate, citing no outside business due to current guild operations. Arden and Elgon immediately jog the guard’s memory into recalling his guild’s relationship with JKS, and he reluctantly radios up to Boundfur, and is surprised when he receives the go-head to let them up. The group found Boundfur in his dimly lit office, pouring over a map that resembled a battle map of the Underhive, with small formations of figures clustered in different areas. JKS explained the situation and implored his assistance. Feeling their relationship was strong, and the favor this small guild did for him was substantial, the old Yeti finally agreed to get someone to survey within the day and a small repair team to get over to SquadQuarters within a day or two.

JKS decides to head to the library next, with many questions currently needing answers. The journey leads by the area of the Embrace once again. This time, it feels more chaotic than usual. The average street goer seemed angier, including lots of yelling directed at Ahtos and Normaad. The group continued on unhindered.

Arriving at the Labyrinth of Knowledge, they ask to see Boro, and do some other research while waiting for the curator. Tingle looks into magic to aid the wounded in battle, but ultimately misinterprets his research, somewhat wasting his time. Elgon and Kal head to the same cube as the ranger delves into Githyanki records, Kal’s research leads to elements in the sump that could lead to a cure for his curse.

The group all return to the lobby. Boro has not yet appeared The group decides to split 2x2, one pair looking for more information on regions of mining/mineral collection in the Sump, while the other looks for more biological/ecological information of the material itself. Their research yields they might be looking for a metallic fungi that tends to grow where pools of the acidic pools of waste liquids that collect in the lower crevasses.

Finally, Boro arrived and showed the group into his office. JKS relay their encounter with the ithilid, and request more information from the Codex about the Mind Flayers as a race. This will take time.

The group now headed towards the Tin Gemini. Arriving at the storefront or what should have been, JKS found the shop folding into defensive mode, as a group of angry folk yell about a cure and getting a refund. Arden, Elgon, and Kal adopt authoritative Ahtorus visages and try to move the mob along. On the strength of Elgon's persuasion, the group moves a little bit away down the road, not dispersing but no longer crowding the shop. JKS is not harassed any further. Tingle takes the opportunity to approach, at which point a split in the wall opens allowing him entry, where he enters alone as the rest of the group stands guard outside Within the small shop of gizmos and wonders, Tingle purchases a set of Kal's cure management doses from Yiyu, and inquires about the needed reagent for the permanent cure. Sindri replies with a likely location of the reagent, helping further reduce future search area within the bowels of Spire Primus. Tingle allows himself to be hooked up into the machine for the experimentation, as Sindri explains they picked up some kind of planar energy signal some time ago, and weren't sure what to make of it. The same signal appeared on their instruments when Tingle first appeared in their shop some days ago. After running their scans, Sindri informs Tingle it is likely someone or something followed him through his planar passage to this realm. The signature of the other being hidden by Tingle’s initial entry. Tingle inquires as to the location of the planar anomaly, but Sindri can only say it is generally within Spire Primus but unable to be more specific.

As Tingle exits the shop, the prior gathering of upset ravers seems to get a bit agitated, and start to encroach on his space. Arden talks them down, and JKS withdraws, heading back towards Squadquarters

As JKS heads towards SQ, they hear the crowd nearby rising, angry and loud. They determine the best action should be to try to get to the Pits to talk to Brengoth as concern grows over the protests. The group takes time to consider ways to avoid the mob if possible. Before they move out, the group stops by Squadquarters to give a heads up on the Grehl coming to survey and start repairs before heading towards the Pits.

By the time the enforcers enter the outskirts of the mob inside Escher territory, the numbers seem thousands strong. General looting and mayhem can be seen in all directions. A group of the mob steps towards the bard, mouthing off, and Arden takes none of it. A shortbow shot at Arden narrowly misses as his insults fly. Moving nimbly among the crowd, Elgon lays a freezing stab into one aggressor, and leaps away before Kal’s axe finishes the job. The two groups reassess each other for half a heartbeat when the fiery blast of Tingle’s spell explodes behind JKS’s foes. Four of the assailants die instantly, as one retaliates with a poisonous cloud. JKS sustains enough damage and Tingle briefly succumbs as the last of the assailants flees. Arden gets Tingle back into shape in no time. Elgon notices a guild mark on one of the fallen's clothing, though it is worn as if attempted to be removed. Even through stealthy means and brief negotiation, the enforcers are unable to get past the outer gates of the Embrace, after a number of failed attempts, they decide to cut losses and head out.

  • We conduct a bit of business. Elgon gets a feather

  • Tingle gets a message from the Tin Gemini that the experiment can start
  • The gang heads for Boundfur's office
  • There appears to be caution lights and a din of general business, perhaps a little more than usual
  • The guards stop us saying no outside business. Arden and Elgon establish our helpfulness and offer a hand. The guard reluctantly radios up to Boundfur, but receives the go-head to let us up
  • We find Boundfur fussing over a map with what almost seems to resemble a battle map of the Underhive, with small formations of figures
  • We explain the situation and implore his assistance. Our relationship is strong and he finally agrees to get someone to survey within the day and a small repair team to get over to SQ within a day or two.
  • We thank him for his attention and leave with our preference for all available urgency made known

  • We decide to head to the library next
  • The way by the Embrace area seems a bit chaotic. Angry people, small fires, lots of yelling directed at Ahtos and Normaad

  • We arrive at the Labyrinth of Knowledge
  • We ask to see Boro, and do some other research as we wait. Tingle goes looking for False Life spells, Elgon goes looking for Githyanki info, Kal goes looking for reagent information on curse removal
  • Tingle finds a book with some spells. In a moment of hesitation, he swipes the book, which effectively gives him 4 scrolls of False Life
  • Kal doesn't exactly hit pay dirt, but discerns that to find the reagent they are after they would need to head to The Sump
  • Elgon finds a little detail on where the Githyanki are known to operate and some known names from the past, in hopes of contacting them, though not a huge amount of actionable information

  • The group all return to the lobby. Boro has not yet appeared

  • Looks like we're looking for a mineralic fungi that tends to grow where pools of the acidic water-like liquids tend to collect, and we find an area with a cluster of these sort of pools that would be more likely to have this kind of growth

  • We head out for the Tin Gemini
  • Along the way, we see some upset people, and we sort of catch what might have been the Tin Gemini, or at least a shop like it, folding into defensive mode, as a group of angry folk yell about a cure and getting a refund

  • Cindry says they picked up an energy signal and weren't sure what to make of it. They later devised it was some kind of intra-planar activity, and found a repeat of the pattern signal increased coinciding with Tingle previously entering their shop, hence the desire to learn more about him.
  • They inform Tingle their scans have determined that someone followed him through the planar passage, masking who it was.
  • Tingle inquires as to the location of the planar anomaly, but Cindy says it is generally within Spire Primus but unable to be more specific

  • The group withdraw, heading back towards Squadquarters

  • As we head towards SQ, we hear the crowd nearby rising, angry and loud
  • We determine we should try to get to the Pits to talk to Brengoth, though we should take a way around to avoid the mob if possible
  • We think it best to dip back and give Squadquarters a heads up on the Grehl coming to survey and start repairs before heading towards the Pits

  • The way is peppered with the outskirts of the mob, which seems thousands strong. General looting and mayhem
  • A group of the mob steps to us, starts mouthing off. Arden doesn't exactly de-escalate the situation

Initiative!

  • One of the baddies takes a shortbow shot at Arden, missing
  • Elgon zips in, frost brand stabs one in the face for a pile, and leaps away
  • Kal steps up and just axes one directly to death
  • Tingle unloads a Fireball. It's super effective! 4 are completely roasted, 1 is not dead but very badly burned
  • The remaining Mage casts a poison cloud in the middle of our group, and we take a bit of damage. Tingle goes down
  • Mage gets spooked and books it. With his concentration dissipated, as does the poison cloud. Arden runs over and revives and heals Tingle

Victory! 🎉

  • Elgon notices a guild mark on one of the fallen's clothing, though it is worn as if attempted to be removed
  • The gang decides to head through the crowd to try to access The Pits. Elgon throws some super stealthy magic and the gang heads through the throng
  • Arden tries to Message the head of the guards that we are there, but it's not coming together. Some of the crowd starts to clue in, but the gang disappears back into the crowd and tries something else
  • Elgon leads us to a side entrance. Arden finagles a chance to talk to a guard, but the guard is definitively not interested in letting us in
  • We decide to cut losses and head out
