Backstory
Damek was born on the outskirts the flats. If there is a bright center a Ravien, he was in the location it is farthest from. It was a small sleepy village where nothing much happened. That is until a group of raiders moved into the area and demanded protection money.
The farmers couldn’t pay so they sent an emissary to monks who lived in their monastery nearby. The monks agreed to help but there would be a cost. Their numbers were thinning and they needed young recruits to pass on their training. A lottery would be held and 5 children would be selected to leave the village and join the monks. Damek’s parents lost that lottery.
Life with the monks was hard but not unpleasant. Damek learned much in the ways of martial combat as well as sharpening his mental focus to a razor edge. He was also encouraged to venture into the monastery’s vast archives to determine which Grand Master he would follow.
One day, while searching the archives, Damek found a small corridor hidden behind one of the hundreds of bookshelves. Curious, he followed it to a small room with mostly empty shelves. This is where he first discovered the teachings of Grand Master Pernos Poe Dellorah and The Ascended Brotherhood. These teachings spoke to Damek and he had found his calling.
Damek had 2 problems though. The first were that the teachings were woefully incomplete. This was more an introduction to the concepts, not a path to follow. When he asked the other masters they explained that these teaching were lost long ago, scattered to the four winds. They were sorry but they were not sure where the rest of the teachings were.
The second problem was that the raiders came back. This time, they destroyed the monastery. Most of the monks were slaughtered in the night. The few who made it out alive went their separate ways. Damek set out to find the rest of his master’s teachings and to hopefully find the ascended brotherhood.
One day, while wandering The Flats he came across a group of four ruffians ganging up on a single halfling. Damek stepped in and helped the halfling dispatch the ruffians. That halfling was Lenora Brightfoot, a member of the JKS. Damek and Lenora became fast friends and Lenora was able to help Damek join the JKS as an enforcer.
Several years passed and Damek was happy with his new life. He was happy to be using his martial skills in a way he felt were worthy. Until one day Lenora never came back. Nobody knew where she went or why she never came back. Upon returning to his room, Damek found a note from Lenora saying she had left. That was all. That night, during his daily meditations Damek had a vision. He saw the teachings of Pernos Poe Dellorah being taken from the small room where he found them by several hooded individuals. He then heard a voice telling him to find the teachings and complete his training.
The next day he went to his squad leader and asked for permission to leave. He would return after his mission was complete and he would be far more powerful. He left the next day. On his quest he has already managed to find one of the tomes. He has been studying it and his power has increased greatly since he left the JKS. He is currently searching for additional scrolls, this time deep below Spire Primus.
